Based in historic Abbotsbury, Richard's vibrant ceramics are either wheel thrown or constructed from slabs using terracotta clay. Each piece is treated as a 3 dimensional canvas and decorated using broad, painterly strokes and slip trailing with a transparent glaze to bring out the colour. The designs echo the folds and rhythms of the landscape, with colours that reflect the contrast between sea and shore. |
